Quick Stop at New Coalinga (C80) – Another One Checked Off the List!
Hey everyone!
I made a quick hop over to New Coalinga Municipal Airport (C80) recently as part of my ongoing goal to visit every public-use airport in California. I didn’t film this one for the Bay Breeze Aviation channel, but I wanted to drop a few notes in case anyone’s looking for a quiet Central Valley stopover.
I landed Runway 30—winds were calm and the long 5000’ runway made for an easy arrival in my Mooney M20E. The field is open, flat, and easy to spot from a distance. The PAPI for RWY 30 is listed as OTS, but the REILs and MIRLs are supposed to be operational.

I recently flew into L45 (Bakersfield Municipal) and found it to be a great stop. The airport facilities are well-maintained, and the runway was in excellent condition, making for a smooth arrival and departure.
If you’re departing toward Bakersfield, keep in mind that the Delta airspace comes up fast. Make your left crosswind turn early to stay clear.
Overall an easy airport to navigate, with plenty of space for parking. I also heard the restaurant is open now on the northwest side of the field. A nice option for anyone needing a well-kept and convenient stop in the area!

San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport (KSBP), nestled in the heart of California’s Central Coast, offers a fantastic destination for general aviation pilots and commercial travelers alike. My recent experience flying into KSBP in my Mooney M20E highlighted both the charm and convenience of this well-maintained airport.
Location and Scenery
One of the biggest perks of flying into KSBP is its location. Approaching San Luis Obispo from the air provides a breathtaking view of rolling hills, vineyards, and the Pacific coastline. The airport is situated just a short drive from the city’s downtown area, making it an ideal stop for those looking to explore the Central Coast’s scenic beauty. Whether you're visiting for leisure or business, the proximity to Highway 101 allows for easy access to nearby attractions.
Runways and Facilities
KSBP features two runways: 11/29, a 6,100-foot primary runway, and 7/25, a 2,300-foot crosswind runway. The main runway is…

Awesome little airport, stopped overnight on our trip across the US. unfortunately the FBO was closed when we arrived, but self-serve and tie-downs right out front worked out great! No overnight fees for the first three days!!
CTAF got us into the very clean FBO with couches, vending machines and a clean bathroom! I would definitely stop in again!

Nice little facility. No one around when we came in, but found the back door to the FBO propped open. Snacks and drinks in the fridge provided by airport management, just leave a few bucks to help out. Overall, clean facility and bathrooms.
