Colusa County Airport (O08) – A Quiet Stop in the Sacramento Valley

Colusa County Airport offers a completely different atmosphere compared to some of the busier Northern California airports. From the moment I arrived, the field felt calm, quiet, and almost empty.

During my visit, I didn’t see another aircraft operating in or out of the airport the entire time I was there. If you’re looking for a peaceful stop without a lot of radio chatter or ramp congestion, O08 definitely delivers.

The airport sits at approximately 49 feet MSL and features a single asphalt runway, Runway 13/31, measuring 3,000 x 60 feet.

Airport Overview

O08 is a small public-use airport serving Colusa County in the Sacramento Valley. The field itself is straightforward and easy to navigate, making it a simple in-and-out stop for transient GA pilots.

The quiet environment makes for a relaxed arrival and departure experience, especially compared to some of the more active training airports throughout Northern California.

CTAF/UNICOM is 122.8.

Fuel / Facilities

Self-serve fuel was available during my visit and was reasonably priced, making O08 a practical stop if you’re passing through the area and need to top off.

The bathrooms are located behind the fuel pump area and were surprisingly clean and well maintained, which is always appreciated at smaller rural airports.

The pilot lounge, however, was a different story.

Located south of the main ramp area, the lounge was extremely minimal — basically just a couple of metal outdoor chairs and a table inside a dirty room. If I had to rate it, it would honestly be about a 1/10. It technically exists, but it’s probably not somewhere most pilots would want to spend much time.

Things Nearby

Colusa County Airport is primarily a functional stop rather than a destination airport, but its quiet atmosphere can actually be a positive if you simply want a quick fuel stop and a peaceful break during a cross-country flight.

The surrounding Sacramento Valley farmland also gives the area a very classic rural California flying feel.

Final Thoughts

Colusa County Airport is simple, quiet, and easygoing.

The reasonably priced self-serve fuel and clean restroom facilities make it a useful stop for GA pilots traveling through the valley, even if the pilot lounge leaves a lot to be desired.

Not every airport needs to be fancy — sometimes a quiet ramp, an easy fuel stop, and no traffic at all makes for a pretty enjoyable visit.
