C80: New Coalinga Municipal Airport
Quick Stop at New Coalinga (C80) – Another One Checked Off the List!
Hey everyone!
I made a quick hop over to New Coalinga Municipal Airport (C80) recently as part of my ongoing goal to visit every public-use airport in California. I didn’t film this one for the Bay Breeze Aviation channel, but I wanted to drop a few notes in case anyone’s looking for a quiet Central Valley stopover.
🛬 Arrival Notes
I landed Runway 30—winds were calm and the long 5000’ runway made for an easy arrival in my Mooney M20E. The field is open, flat, and easy to spot from a distance. The PAPI for RWY 30 is listed as OTS, but the REILs and MIRLs are supposed to be operational.
📋 Airport Overview
Runway 12/30: 5000’ x 100’ asphalt, fair condition.
Runway 1/19: Closed due to surface failure.
Helipad H1: Available, asphalt in good shape.
CTAF/UNICOM: 122.7
Elevation: 625 feet MSL
AWOS is currently out of service, so plan to get weather from NLC (19nm NE on 121.575) or PRB (34nm SW).
I did not stop long enough to explorer, but there is a self serve fuel tank to the west on the ramp. Based on the Foreflight comments, its usually inoperative, so I would make other arrangements just in case. Other users stated that there is a restroom located in the adjacent modular building, but I did not investigate further.
Either way, C80 is a great alternative for Harris Ranch (3O8), which is not too far away. The long and wide runway is great for those high density altitude days! The City of Coalinga is also just a few miles west if you’re looking for food or a place to stay.
🗺️ Why C80?
Honestly, this one was mostly a “check the box” visit as I continue working through my California airport map. It’s a solid no-frills stop in the Central Valley—good for a quick break or lunch picnic, assuming you come prepared.
No regrets, just one more pin in the map. If you're doing something similar—hitting all CA airports—it’s worth dropping in.
Fly safe out there!
